Born to a family of Villach, Carinthia, Glawischnig was a student at the gymnasium in Spittal an der Drau and she took her Matura examination at the same place. Then she went on to study law in Graz University of Graz, Styria where she graduated with honors in the year 1993 (Magistra) and 1999 (doctorate) respectively.

Supporters of the Court’s landmark ruling believe it empowers online users to defend themselves against defamation or other online abuse, while critics have called out the possibility of mass censorship due to the challenging nature of online rule enforcement.
