Erna Martha Frins-Pereira (born 30 December, 1960) is an Uruguayan scientist. She is an academic as well as a researcher in the University of the Republic. The president was of the Uruguayan Physics Society from 2007 until 2011. In 2012, she was awarded the National L’Oreal-UNESCO Award to Women in Science for her work in the field of environmental Physics.
In 2012 she won the National L’Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science, for her project “Metodos opticos para el estudio de emisiones gaseosas generadas en la operacion de centrales termicas”. The research focuses on the creation of an optical technique for studying gas emissions in thermal power stations. The technology can be used to determine the location of the gases that pollute our atmosphere, locating them in specific positions.
Frins was the president of the Uruguayan Physics Society for two consecutive terms between 2007 and 2011.

In the years 1979-86 Frins took a course in physics and chemistry within The University of the Republic. In 1992, she received an advanced degree in physics at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany and an essay about the properties of lasers that can be tuned in solid state. In 1998, she finished her PhD in science with a concentration in Physics from Goethe University Frankfurt, from the research into the applications of optics and topological phase.
In 1999, she was the leader of an research team focusing to the design of optical techniques to remotely monitor the atmospheric conditions at the Institute of Physics, Applied Optics Group of the University of the Republic. She is an Associate Grade 4 Professor in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of the Republic and Grade 4 researcher in the Programa de Desarrollo de las Ciencias Basicas (PEDECIBA). (PEDECIBA). Since 2004, she has been an active participant in the National System of Researchers of Uruguay.
