Ermal Kuqo is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Player who was born on February 12, 1980 in Korçë, Albania. Ermal Kuqo (Turkish: Ermal Kurtoglu; born on 12 February 1980) is a retired Albanian professional basketball player who played for the majority of his professional career with Efes Pilsen. Kuqo was part of the Turkish national team from 2004 until the year 2010 however, during this summer he was granted the chance to represent his birth nation, the Albanian National team. The basketball coach is now with the Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA acting as director of International Pro Scouting Personnel.
The 2007-08’s season, Kuqo signed a two-year contract together with Pamesa Valencia. He experienced a very fluctuating and up and down season, especially since Neven Spahija was appointed coach Fotios Katsikaris in the middle of November. The majority of the time, the coach Spahija preferring Kosta Perovic over Matt Nielsen playing together and considered Kuqo to be an over- subscription. In January, he sustained an injury to his calf that affected his playing time for at most one month, and was enough to take Ermal from the squad. Although he had started his preseason training with Valencia the following year, Kuqo together with the squad decided to end their relationship in September, and Kuqo later signed a contract to go again at Efes Pilsen. He joined the team in late October, and was mainly playing on the bench since the coach of Efes Pilsen was able to find plenty of center players to choose from, including the list were Mario Kasun, Daniel Santiago, Kaya Peker, Bostjan Nachbar. After two extremely disappointing seasons, his boss Oktay Mahmuti knocked on Ermal’s door and offered the player a contract in the club of Galatasaray Spor Kulubu, offer that Ermal quickly accepted.
In the summer of 2014, Kuqo signed with Darüşşafaka & Doğuş for the 2014–15 season, once again reuniting with his former coach Oktay Mahmuti and serving as the team’s captain.
In June 2015, he signed with Türk Telekom for the 2015–16 season.
In the summer of 2004, when faced with an array of national teams the team he chose was Turkey and was granted the chance to participate at the highest level of competitions such as EuroBasket or World Championships. After representing the Turkish team at two European Championships and a World Championship in 2010, he decided to approach FIBA to allow him to represent his national nation of Albania. He was the top player in Albania with scoring throughout 2010., in the Division B of FIBA’s League B, scoring an average of 19 goals per match. He was a member of the Albanian the national side for four years.

Kuqo’s parents Robert and his uncle Artan are among the basketball legends of his homeland of Albania. Kuqo arrived in Turkey at the age of 15 years old. He obtained Turkish citizenship in the year 1997, and due to Turkish laws, had to change his name from Kurtoglu. He took his Turkish name of Kurtoglu during his time playing for the Turkish league, however, during the Euroleague as well as other European tournaments, he played under the name “Kuqo”.
At 15 years old, Kuqo started his professional career with the club Fenerbahce. He was a basketball player in Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas and Seminole State College in Seminole, Oklahoma, United States. Following junior college, Kuqo signed a Letter of Intent to Texas Tech University in the NCAA to be a part of famous Bobby Knight, but because of his prior European professional experience and his previous professional career, he was ruled ineligible. Then he made the decision to return to Europe and pursue his professional career with the world-renowned dalmatian club KK Split (ex-Jugoplastika). After a disappointing year with the Zuti they finally saw his breakthrough season with Slovenian team KK Pivovarna Lasko, averaging around 13 ppg as well as seven rpg during the Adriatic League. In the summer of 2003, Ermal signed a two-year deal with the Turkish powerful Efes Pilsen, coached by Oktay Mahmuti. He made an immediate impact in the EuroLeague as well as the Turkish domestic league, and established him as one of the best players for Efes Pilsen, the Turkish champions.
He had a chance to show his best self playing for Galatasaray in 2010–11 season where together with Preston Shumpert they led the team in scoring at 11 ppg and took their team to their first playoffs final since 1990 where they lost to a powerful Fenerbahçe team 4-2. In June 2011, Ermal agreed to a two- year contract to play again for his former team Efes Pilsen.
