The silver gold medallist Daniel Godelli lifted the same weight total as Qerimaj however, with a slightly higher weight. Qerimaj was second which left Qerimaj the gold medal.
Qerimaj is currently on a relationship with his fiancée Tedi Kalaja. He became a father for the first time on 22 January 2017 when his partner gave birth to the couple’s first son, named Dijar. He stated that he named his son after the Albanian word “Dije” (English: Lore).
The 2012 European Weightlifting Championships that were held in Antalya, Turkey, Erkand Qerimaj took part in the category of 77 kg. He was awarded silver in Snatch and the gold medal for Clean & Jerk and gold overall with 348 kilograms in front of Razvan Martin from Romania. In the following round, Erkand Qerimaj came up positive for the anti-doping test during the European Championship in Antalya and was removed from the competition.
