Erik Lesser is one of the most popular and richest Biathlete who was born on May 17, 1988 in Suhl, Germany. His great-grandfather Axel Lesser competed in cross-country skiing for East Germany at the 1976 Winter Olympics.
The day of the course of his World Cup debut in Kontiolahti on 12 March 2010, Lesser placed third on the German mixed relay, which included Kati Wilhelm Magdalena Neuner and Simon Schempp. For his first single competition, he came in fourth in sprint and qualified him for the next pursuit , in which he came 51st. In 2008, he began in Ruhpolding for his very first Junior World Championship, where he finished seventh in the individualcompetition, sixth in sprint, and eight in the chase. In the following year, he was awarded in Canmore the bronze medal in the individual contest, and finished 11th in pursuit and sprint and won the first leg of the men’s relay. In this event, along the trio of Simon Schempp, Benedikt Doll and Florian Graf, he was awarded the gold medal. In the summer, he took home the Junior Summer World Championships in Oberhof and took the title of sprinter and pursuer using roller skis.

In the Biathlon World Championships 2013 , he took home a bronze medal in his German team in the relay for men.
Erik Lesser, grandson of Axel Lesser, lives in Zella-Mehlis, and has been training mainly in Oberhof. Coach was Mark Kirchner, before Peter Sendel. Lesser started cross-country skiing when he was 6 and started biathlon at the age of 11. He graduated from the Oberhof Sports Gymnasium, the athlete began his track career at the club SV Eintracht Frankenhain.
In the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi Erik Lesser won silver medals in the individual competition and with the German men’s relay squad. On the final day of the Games, he also took part in the 50km cross-country freestyle race and finished 42nd among 64 starters.
