Skoglund began the 2018 season with Kansas City’s first rotation. He went 0-5 in 9 starts prior to being put on the list of disabled players.

Skoglund was designated for assignment by the Royals on March 25, 2020.

Skoglund made his debut as a professional in his team the Idaho Falls Chukars in 2014 and stayed there, pitching 0-2 and the 5.09 ERA in nine games (eight starts). He pitched in 2015 for the Wilmington Blue Rocks where he posted a 6-3 record and 3.52 ERA in 15 starts and also in 2016 for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals where he pitched to a 7-10 record with a 3.45 ERA in 27 games that he started. He began 2017 , with the Naturals and was later transferred to the Omaha Storm Chasers after only one game as a member of the Naturals. On May 30th, he was recalled by the Royals and made his debut in the major leagues on the following day.

Skoglund was a student at Sarasota High School located in Sarasota, Florida. He was chosen with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 16th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft but did not sign , and enrolled at University of Central Florida. University of Central Florida (UCF) in which the team played in the NCAA baseball tournament. He played in the collegiate summer baseball for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League and came back to Cape Cod in 2013, to join the Bourne Braves. Following his junior season the team was selected to the Kansas City Royals in the third round of the 2014 MLB Draft.

In his debut in the major leagues, Skoglund pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings and five strikeouts and allowed only two walks and one hit in a 1-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Skoglund went back to Omaha on the 19th of June and the remainder of 2017 bouncing in between Omaha in Omaha and Kansas City. In 19 games for Omaha Skoglund, he recorded a record of 4-5 with an 4.11 ERA and in seven games (five starts) for Kansas City, he posted two wins and a 9.50 ERA.

On January 16, 2019, Skoglund was suspended 80 games after testing positive for Ostarine and Ligandrol.
