Gutierrez was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He signed, and after one game with the GCL Marlins in which he went 3 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBIs, he was promoted to the Batavia Muckdogs. He spent the rest of 2016 with Batavia where he posted a .218 batting average with five home runs and 36 RBIs. In 2017, he played for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, where he batted .258 with seven home runs, 49 RBIs, and a .707 OPS.
