Enygma is one of the most popular and richest Record Producer who was born on February 1, 1980 in Kampala, Uganda. “I-Am” Enygma (born January 1, 1980) popularly known by the stage name Enygma is a Ugandan musician, rapper as well as executive producer and entrepreneur well-known for his wordplay-laced rhymes. He is always sporting an emoji on his face to hide his identity. He gained notoriety in December of 2010 due to the huge success of his hit single Hustler’s Night featuring The mith, Keko and Navio. The single was followed with more well-known smashes in 2011, such as F.U.M.E.M.E. as well as Ten Reasons. He is also a member of one third of the occasional rappers Klarity along with The Mith and Lyrikal Proof. He also frequently , he has collaborations with other artists like Ruyonga, Maurice Kirya and Lyrical G. As an Entrepreneur, Enygma conducts private business typically outside of the entertainment business.

In the year 2010, Enygma began his active music career. He had made the decision to record a single album before he took off immediately. The album was going to be titled the album Enygma of the State. The name came from the Lupe Fiasco mixtape called Enemy of the State that is also an alias for one of his most cherished Will Smith movies. The album combines one of the Enygma’s influences the time he first became aware of rap and also one of his main influences in the today. The album is a summation of everything he’s done between. Incorporating the term “Enemy” with the name “Enygma” also represents the contradiction that is at the heart of the persona of Enygma. He is both bright and dark based the way you decide to interpret him, which makes the artist truly Enygmatic. After the album was released, Enygma felt like he had learned so much about the art of recording during the process of making it, and there was more to be learned. He decided to wait until he realized how much his potential as an artist. He also changed the classification of his Enygma album of the State from an album to a mixtape, and released it in June of this year. In the process, Enygma’s fame grew.

In 2012, Enygma was nominated for Breakthrough Artist and Top Hood Rapper at the Buzz Teeniez Awards. In the same year he was part of a collective that received a nomination for the single Competition is Dead at the Pearl of Africa Music Awards. In 2013, Enygma was once again nominated for Top Hood Rapper at the Buzz Teeniez Awards. Considered among the most influential rappers in Uganda.

Because Enygma of the State was an accidental mixtape, Enygma wanted to immediately get to work making a mixtape deliberately. His hip-hop education taught him that mixtapes were always full of cover beats, instrumentals from popular hits that the artist in question wanted to tackle and give a new interpretation. And so Enygma went ahead to squeeze in as many covers as he felt reasonable into this project. And because the beats belonged to other artists, he was in effect masquerading on those beats, hence the title Maskerade (December 2012). The concept was unappreciated by many and the project split opinions of Ugandan hip-hop lovers. Nonetheless, F.U.M.E.M.E. (a vent session lamenting the problems of frequent power outages in Kampala, recorded on the Instrumental of Kanye West’s All of the Lights) became Enygma’s most downloaded song of all time and spread Enygma’s popularity to stations that do not traditionally give much airtime to Ugandan hip-hop.

In the years following University, Enygma only remained engaged in hip-hop as an observer . He was able to establish himself working in corporate America, totally detached from the music business. At a corporate event He removed his tie, hopped on the mic and began performing to his stunned audience. This resulted in Enygma meeting an old friend from his time as a student, Jay Kay. Jay Kay had an audio editing software and was recording tracks on his laptop, along with three other buddies (Junny, D.M. Dub as well as Plan Mbi) They were called Da Posse. Enygma got invited into the band because they had two things in common: they all worked at corporate jobs and they all loved rapping. If Da Posse were not recording songs on computers using Skype microphones they were playing freestyle cyphers and fighting with against each other to improve their lyrical skills. After recording the track Kampala City and deciding that it was the right time to locate a studio and get some professional recordings completed. The group was then taken towards Hannz Records in November 2009 which is where Kampala City was recorded again. Hannz and Enygma discovered they had great relationship and decided to collaborate on other projects in the near future.

The year 1989 was the time that Vanilla Ice had a global smash hit through Ice Ice Baby and it was equally popular in London like everywhere in the world. Young Enygma was the first to have had music heavily dependent on the lyrics before, and an untrained African resident of London got a rather unlikely first introduction to the art of the art of rapping. Enygma was able to memorize the entire lyrics, and was able to do the same with the MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This and Will Smith’s theme track in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In 1991, the 11-year-old rappers Kris Kross and Kris Kross emerged on the scene. Since these guys were like the one he was (particularly Mac Daddy, who died in 1991 Mac Daddy), Enygma felt a sense of relief that the craft was accessible to young youngsters like himself. In the following decade, he gathered music from 2pac, Notorious BIG, Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, Xzibit, DMX, Busta Rhymes, Naughty By Nature, Warren G, Will Smith, Lil Kim, Missy Elliot and Rakim. in 1997 Mase came out with 24 Hours To Live with the Lox, Black Rob and DMX in one of the most explosive posse tracks in the era. This sparked Enygma after many years of writing poetry and poems, to begin writing his first bar raps. In 2001, while on his senior 6 trip to London Enygma recorded an album he was planning to record the album with his producer and his cousin Vince Vaider. However, as destiny would have it Vince Vaider’s computer failed and he was not able to provide the music according to the plan. Also, the laptop crashed for Enygma which caused him to lose all the lyrics he’d composed for the album. This caused Enygma to stop rapping when the beginning of his University life. Apart from performing in one show on campus each year, was unable to develop it into an art. However, he did meet GNL Zamba, Wordstorm, Navio, The Mith and Langman during his University times. These friendships would prove important to his career, even though he was not aware of it at the time.

Enygma discovered a love for hip-hop after hearing hip hop on the popular radio and television channels as a kid from popular rap tracks that broke into the mainstream. He was amazed by the fact that he found music that matched the passion for poetry that he had developed at the school. Enygma started to remember every one of his favorite lyrics and at the time of his completion of high school, he had earned a reputation among his classmates as a fierce as well as competitive battle rapper. He also frequently performed at school functions. He collaborated with his cousin producer Vince Vaider, to put an album , which was released in the year 2001 however, technical issues caused a delay and Enygma quickly resigned from rapping in order to concentrate on university education.

Several years later, Enygma began writing again which in June 2011 culminated in the critically acclaimed Enygma of the State mixtape. This resulted in Enygma receiving two Buzz Teeniez Awards Nominations (Top Hood Rapper and Breakthrough Artist) in 2012. This was followed by two more mixtapes, namely, Maskerade in December 2012 (with another Buzz Teeniez Awards Nomination for Top Hood Rapper) and The Enygma Machine in December 2014.
