Enrico Letta (Italian: [en’ri:ko ‘letta]; born 20 September 1966) is an Italian university professor and politician who served as the prime minister in Italy from 2013 until 2014, leading a huge coalition that included the centre-left Democratic Party, the centre-right People of Freedom, and the centrist Civic Choice. He is also an elected member of the Chamber of Deputies since 2006. Letta has been Minister of European Affairs from 1998 to 1999, and Minister of Industry between 1999 and 2001. He was also the Secretary of the Council of Ministers from 2006 to 2008.

In 2004, Letta was forced to leave the Italian Parliament in order to become an official representative to the European Parliament, where he was part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) group as well as an active part of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. In 2006, he returned in the Chamber of Deputies and was appointed Secretary of the Cabinet within the Prodi II Cabinet and succeeded the uncle Gianni Letta, who held the same position in the previous third Berlusconi Cabinet and then reconsigning the position for his grandfather two years after upon the creation of the 4th Berlusconi government.
