Elvira Nabiullina is one of the most popular and richest Economist who was born on October 29, 1963 in Ufa, Bashkortostan, Russia. Nabiullina was born in Ufa, Bashkortostan, on 29 October 1963, in the Tatar family. She was the daughter of Sakhipzada Saitzadayevich worked as a driver, and their mom Zuleikha Khamatnurovna was a manager in an industrial facility. Elvira was a graduate of school No. 31 in Ufa as a very good student. She graduated from Moscow State University in 1986. The following years she was also chosen to be a part of the 2007 Yale World Fellows Program.

In 2013, Nabiullina was appointed the head of the Central Bank of Russia, becoming the second woman, after Tatiana Paramonova to hold that post, and becoming the first Russian woman to be a member of the G8. In May 2014, she has been named as one of the most influential women by Forbes and said her that she “has been given the difficult task of managing the ruble exchange rate during Ukraine’s political crisis and facilitating growth for an economy trying to avoid a recession”. To stop the decline of the ruble Russia’s Central Bank of Russia, under her direction, increased interest rates, loosened the exchange rate and imposed a limit on inflation, thereby improving the stability of the system as well as increasing confidence of foreign investors. Euromoney magazine named her their 2015 Central Bank Governor of the Year.

Russian President Putin named Nabiullina to the position of minister of trade and economic development on the 24th of September 2007 succeeding Gref. She found working with deputy finance minister and minister of the premiership Alexei Kudrin “difficult but always interesting” and was in the position until the 21st of May 2012. In 2012, she was among six top government officials to accompany Putin in his return to the Kremlin administration following Putin became president of Russia for a third time.

Between 1991 and 1994, Nabiullina was employed by in the USSR Science and Industry Union and its successor that was The Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. In 1994, she was appointed to the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade which she was able to rise to the rank of deputy minister in 1997. She resigned from this ministry at the end of 1998. She worked for the subsequent two years at Sberbank in its role as the chief executive officer and also as a member of the former Economic Development and Trade Minister German Gref’s think tank that is non-governmental called the Center for Strategic Development, before returning to the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade as its first deputy in the year 2000. Between 2003 and September 2007, her selection as Minister, she headed the Center for Strategic Development as in addition to an advisory panel to prepare for Russia’s presidency in the G8 group of nations.

In 2017 British magazine The Banker chose Nabiullina as “Central Banker of the Year, Europe”.
