Wang began playing violin when she was just a few years old and switched to an upright bass in place of the violin when she was sixteen. She then enrolled at the Norwegian Academy of Music under the direction of bassist Bjorn Kjellemyr. Wang is the leader of herself and her band Ellen Andrea Wang Trio and the group “Pixel”, is a driver in the group “SynKoke”, and is as well a part of the group Dag Arnesen Trio (2010 -). The concert performed by “Pixel” including drummer Jon Audun Baar and trumpeter Jonas Kilmork Vémoy and the saxophonist Harald Lassen, was noted as “one of the most memorable moments” of the Match and Fuse Festival, by the Jazz magazine Down Beat.
The band performed at the Oslo Jazz Festival 2013, Wang for the first time performed an ensemble that was named after the title Ellen Andrea Wang Trio. On the keyboards are Andreas Ulvo, well known for his work with his band the “Eple Trio” and Mathias Eick’s group. On drums is Erland Dahlen who works along with Nils Petter and Susanna Wallumrod as well as other musicians. The group performs an innovative jazz that draws elements of the pop and rock worlds.
At Vossajazz 2014, she appeared within Ivar Kolve’s Polyostinat experience. Here she performed with Norwegian elite musicians, and delivered an indulgent polyrhythmic and polyharmonic treat for the discerning ear.
