Elizabeth Gleadle was born in Vancouver on December 5 1988, in the home of her parents Dan as well as Sonia. Her parents took her to nearly every sport offered throughout elementary school, and she even played in the fastball team of Vancouver’s Vancouver Wildcats Rep fastball team as pitcher. In 2002, in the 8th grade in Kitsilano Secondary School, Liz was a javelin thrower in Caroline Wittrin’s class for gym. The following year, she was the winner of the Vancouver City’s championship with throwing 17 meters. In 2004, when she was in the 10th grade, Bruce Miller, a parent who was coaching the high school team was the coach who helped Liz to finish 3rd in the BC High School Championships, take home the BC Youth Championships, and take home the Canadian Youth Championships. In the fall of 2004, Elizabeth decided to concentrate on track and field and she joined with the Vancouver Thunderbirds Track and Field Club along with coach Laurier Primeau. This was the very first sport Elizabeth had ever attempted. After a few months of training during winter, she made the decision to solely focus on javelin. In the summer of 2005, she was named the BC as well as Canadian Youth Champion, and she was selected to her place on the World Youth Team to compete in Morocco in which she throw 50.51m which was a new Canadian Youth Record and finishing 5th.

Liz has broken her Canadian record back in the month of May in 2015 (throwing 64.83 metres) when she won her first Golden Grand Prix meet in Kawasaki, Japan. On July 4 on the 4th of July, 2015 Liz took home her first Canadian Track and Field Championships throwing 59 meters, despite not-so-perfect conditions. She was also 11th in the 2015 World Championships.

During the 2016 Harry Jerome Classic in Vancouver, one of Gleadle’s throws went out of bounds and narrowly missed a cameraman, piercing his shirt. The cameraman finished shooting the event and she apologized immediately afterwards. She said, “I’m not going to throw a javelin at someone and not see if they’re OK. I don’t feel like that’s polite.”

In the spring of 2011, Liz decided to take the time off from her kinesiology studies at UBC and to dedicate all of her time to training. Liz moved towards Lethbridge, Alberta to train at the National Training Centre for throws in Lethbridge, Alberta with coach Lawrence Steinke. Following the London Olympics Liz returned to her studies and also trained in Lethbridge. Liz did not participate in the 2013 season of competition due to a back problem however, following an intense training regimen, she returned to competition in 2014. She was 5th at her 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games (throwing 60.69 meters). On September. 13th, 2014 she was 3rd in the IAAF Continental Cup in Marrakesh, Morocco.
