Elizabeth Ames Jones (born October 29th 1956) was a former member of both the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Railroad Commission, the regulator of natural gas and petroleum.
The year 2008 was when Jones made it clear her plans in Bryan, Texas, that she was running in the United States Senate seat expected to be taken by the fellow Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison. On the 7th of November, 2011 however, Jones declared that she was endorsing her U.S. Senate campaign and instead decided to run for District 25 within the Texas State Senate against veteran Republican Jeff Wentworth in the Republican primary on May 29th 2012. With a crucial 2307 ballots (30.5 percentage), Jones finished in the top third spot during the Senate primary, but she was omitted in the run-off election that took place on July 31st 2012. incumbent Jeff Wentworth led with 27,040 votes (35.8 percent) and was battling the conservative challenger, Donna Campbell, a physician from New Braunfells, who polled 25,458 primary votes (33.7 percent). Even though Campbell had in 2010 lost the general race against incumbent Democrat Lloyd Doggett for Texas’s 25th congressional district, she came back to win by two-to-one with Wentworth at the State Senate race for the primary.
She was elected chairman in the month of January, 2005. resigned from the legislature in order to accept an appointment by governor Rick Perry to fill the vacant position in the Railroad Commission created by the resignation of Charles R. Matthews. In her inauguration as Railroad Commissioner on the 2nd of March 2005 Jones is the only woman ever to be appointed chairman of the Commission. in 2006 Jones got elected for an entire term on the Railroad Commission, having defeated the Democrat Dale Henry of Lampasas however she resigned 11 months before the expiration of her term. Governor Perry appointed Buddy Garcia of Austin to take over the remaining months of Jones term. Garcia quit upon his election as Republican Christi Craddick as Jones’s chosen successor.

Between 2000 and in 2005 Jones served as the representative for the District seat of 121 from Bexar County in the Texas House. At the Republican primary on March 14 2000, she overwhelmingly eliminated incumbent Rep. Bill Siebert, who had held the post since 1993. The final count of votes was 8053 (66.4 percentage) against 4082 (33.6 percentage). At the time she resigned Siebert, Jones was a politician who was unknown in her home in the Alamo Heights section of San Antonio. Siebert’s political death was triggered when his lobbying activities were reported by The San Antonio Express-News. The Express-News editorial urged Republican citizens to “clean house and dump” Siebert who it described as “the local GOP’s biggest embarrassment.”
Jones was elected for the State House between 2002 and in 2004. In her second term as a legislator she was elected vice chair of the House Republican Caucus, the first woman to hold this leadership post.
