Elito Circa is one of the most popular and richest Artist who was born on January 28, 1970 in Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Amangpintor was the son of Juan Llagas Circa and Josefina Salazar Villaflor in the town’s old part in Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines on the 28th of January 1970. He was the eldest child of 7. The education he received was funded by an award from World Vision Foundation under foster parents Cynthia and Leigh Brown from Perth, Australia who provided financial aid to his studies throughout high school (awarded The Artist of the Year) until he graduated from Central Luzon State University. Central Luzon State University with the degree of Elementary Education.

The year 1978 was when Amangpintor was the first to start using own hair for his paintbrushes , with the help of his father who was a carpenter in the same time. He began to bring small pieces of plywood home and paints. He is a distinctive Filipino folk painter who utilizes his own hair to make his paintbrushes. When he was 15 Amangpintor continued painting on huge canvases, using native supplies and organic raw materials like the soy sauce and charcoal from a fireplace smoke from candles extract from tomatoes onion and black palm. Amangpintor has no formal training in painting. He started drawing, using charcoals from the stove in their kitchen, on the walls of their house in Pantabangan town when he was eight years old. He completed an estimated 600 works of arts since 1980, which he gave to some of his teachers, friends and neighbors during that time. He also painted a series of 15 paintings for the “Legend of Minggan” which depicted the courtship of the giant “Minggan” to “Mariang Sinukuan” who was supposed to be dwelling in Mount Arayat. Amangpintor also made a series of paintings about the place of his birth, depicted about the evacuation of the residents of Pantabangan when their town was about to be submerged by Pantabangan Dam.

In 1982, as the beginning, Amangpintor also started signing his drawing using his own blood to authenticate the artworks and later explore and experiment it as a medium in paintings especially for flowers and related heart love feeling subjects. He calls it “Blood is life and love, love with sacrifice”.

The paintings of Amangpintor from 1978 to 1993 reflected his passion for the indigenous materials. He conducted extensive studies regarding the impact of hair strands as texture human blood preservation and the techniques artists employed to portray these effects. Amangpintor’s artists’ movement is committed to protecting the environment from global warming by promoting the idea of using indigenous materials for painting . They also teach students and other pupils to tackle the issue of a lack of paint materials due to financial constraints. His interest in global warming began at the young age of 12, when he entered an annual drawing contest run by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in 1982. He was awarded third place. the theme of the contest which was “Depletion of the Ozone Layer”.
