Dora Akunyili is one of the most popular and richest Pharmacologist who was born on July 14, 1954 in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. Dora Nkem Akunyili (July 1954 to 2014) was the Director-General for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) of Nigeria from 2001 until 2008.
Akunyili was a candidate for the position of senator for Anambra Central for the APGA in April of 2011, but she was defeated in the election by Chris Ngige of the ACN. The ACN immediately filed an appeal for the Independent National Electoral Commission disputing the outcome. She passed away at the hospital of an Indian hospital on June 7, 2014 following a fight with cancer of the uterus.
The funeral was held on the 27th and 28th of August with the presence of numerous high-ranking officials from Nigeria and beyond such as the president Goodluck Jonathan (2010 to 2015) The then Nigerian President, as well as a past Nigerian military ruler, General Yakubu Gowon.
