Donna Franceschild (born November 22 1953, in Illinois) is an Illinois-born British dramatist and writer for television, born in the US. She has written a variety of TV and stage plays however her most well-known work is the BBC series Takin’ over the Asylum.

She created the four-part show A Mug’s Game (1996) and was also the author of a rewrite of the novel by Robert McLiam Wilson Eureka Street to BBC television (Northern Ireland) The first episode was broadcast in September 1999.

She has always fought for the cause of promoting the awareness and knowledge of mental health issues and has been as a juror for the Mental Health Media awards since 1996. The play she wrote in 2008, Lost in Plain Sight was a story of a young man’s healing from suicide attempts. In 2010 Franceschild changed the Steinbeck play Of Mice and Men for radio, with David Tennant and Liam Brennan. There are two new shows that will air on Radio Four and a commission to write a single TV show to be broadcast on Channel Four.
