Don Poier is one of the most popular and richest Sportscaster who was born on February 24, 1951 in Snohomish, Washington, United States. Donald Robert “Don” Poier (February 24 1951 until January 21 the 21st of January, 2004) was a sports play-by play announcer who broadcast the telecasts of Pac-10 basketball and football games. He also served as the voice on television and radio on behalf of both The Vancouver as well as the Memphis Grizzlies.
The year 1995 saw Poier was promoted to the ranks of professional broadcasters and joined with the Vancouver Grizzlies during their first season within the NBA. Prior to that, the sole professional games he was able to call were with the NBA as a play-by-play announcer on behalf of The Seattle SuperSonics during the exhibition seasons in the early 1980s, and also for major league baseball as radio broadcaster with the Seattle Mariners in the 1981 season. He and fellow former NBA athlete and sportscaster Bob Elliott gained national recognition for their contributions to EA Sports’ NBA Live Series video games from 1999 until 2003. After having done radio play-by play for each Grizzlies games during their time both in Vancouver and Memphis and then being elevated to TV play-by play during this season.
Poier has spent over 20 years in his career as a broadcaster in Seattle broadcasting local basketball, football matches during the Pac-10 and hydroplane boat races. In the 1980s, he served as the sports director for KING-TV (NBC) as well as later worked for KCPQ (Fox) as well as Prime Sports Northwest.

Born in Snohomish, northeast of Seattle, Poier was a three-sport standout in baseball, basketball, and football at Snohomish High School, where he played first base, forward, and punter/quarterback/tight end/defensive back. He played on Dick Armstrong’s first league champion soccer team of 1968. He earned all-state recognition for his position as DB.
After playing basketball for the freshman squad in Washington State, Poier transferred to Pacific Lutheran near Tacoma, where he was a defensive lineman for the basketball team from 1972-73 under an equally legendary coach Frosty Westering.
On January 21, 2005, Poier was found dead of an apparent heart attack in his Denver hotel room before the Grizzlies’ game against the Nuggets. The Grizzlies decided to play the game in spite of Poier’s sudden death, and lost by a final score of 92–82.
