During this championship, on November 26, 1993, Poeder scored a first round knockout victory over Wladimir Klitschko in the semifinals (being the only boxer to stop him in amateurs, before Ross Puritty repeated Poeder’s successful performance over Klitschko in 1998, and the only boxer to ever stop him in the first round,) losing the finals to Juan Carlos Gómez.

While in “Silent Dragon Holland” he realized that the sport of kickboxing was not suitable for his knees that were weak. Poeder was later treated for corrective surgery for his knee. Gunning believes in the potential of Poeder and accepts to coach him in boxing. Training here lasted until 1991. In that time, Gunning was the organizer of three boxes for Poeder. Poeder participated in an amateur boxing match in the heavyweight division.

Don Diego Rivelino Alfredo Poeder (born 3 April 1972) is an ex- Dutch professional fighter. He is regarded as the sole Dutch professional boxer to win the title of world champion of a minor organization as an undefeated professional. Following his professional debut, in the year 1994 Poeder continued to be undefeated in 21 of his matches in boxing against a limited opponent, but never battling a champion or even a top-ten ranking contender. His first, and last championship bout to defend his IBO World Cruiserweight Title resulted in a knockout loss of 10 rounds against American traveler Robert Daniels.

Poeder was a student at the kickboxing academy “Silent Dragon Holland” in 1988, and became an instructor Enric Gunning who was the bronze medalist at the inaugural world boxing tournament W.A.K.O. World Championships in 1978.
