Domino started his career in music as rapper, but by 1989-1990 he was mostly devoted to beat production, following the purchase of an Casio FZ10M sampling device. At the time of his joining his band the Hieroglyphics around the middle of the 1990s Domino was focusing exclusively on beat production and beat-making.
When 1991 began, Domino resided in the basement of the The Groove Merchant’ Record Store in the Bay Area honing his ear and making crafty use of vintage and rare soul and funk records. He came across Hieroglyphics the group’s founding member Del the Funky Homosapien through an avid customer, Elektra Records A&R/producer Dante Ross. Del later introduced Domino and the others of Hieroglyphics who loved Domino’s beat-making skills just as well as Domino was awed by the Hieroglyphics’ abilities to rap. Domino was eventually a member of the group. In the end, the different groups were contracted to Elektra or Jive Records. Domino was the most popular, and being the oldest of the group, was appointed the spokesperson and manager for the majority all the bands.
