Dominick Lawniczak Evans (born December 26th in 1980) is a transgender non- binary queer Polish-American filmmaker activist, activist Mixer streamer, video public speaker, gamer, activist, writer and advocate for disabled persons as well as the LGBT community.

Evans is a resident of the Midwest He travels between the Midwest as well as New York for work. Evans has been working mainly with his partner in creative work, Ashtyn Law, since 2002.

In 2014, Evans started the Twitter discussion #FilmDis, a now-monthly discussion that explores the problems with inclusion of those with disabilities, as well as portrayals of disability in film, television, and other media. Discussions have been attended by notable filmmakers, comic book writers, and actors. It is held the second Saturday of every month at 9 PM ET. In 2016, he returned to NYCC via Skype for the panel, ‘Where are the Wheelchairs?’, which also included author and activist Day Al-Mohamed, model and activist Jillian Mercado, actress/comedienne, and advocate Maysoon Zayid, and actor/comedian, activist, and Ramy co-star, Steve Way.

Evans has been advocating for the disability community since he was a child. He has been heavily involved in the movement for better portrayals of trans people and disability in film and other media, as well as the marriage equality movement for both LGBTQ and disabled people. He was invited to attend the White House’s first forum on disability and LGBT issues in June 2014.

Dominick was an actor and a singer in his youth and also a model for the MDA but Dominick has stopped supporting the MDA, and is vocal about the harm it’s done to children who have neuromuscular disabilities as well as the disabled community. Dominick had a conflicting relations with his parents especially his mother, and it became more tense when he started coming out at 16. His father passed away due to heart failure in 2001.

Evans has been born suffering from a degenerative neurological impairment and SMA, or spinal muscular atrophy. Evans was first diagnosed as type III SMA at the age of 4, and has required wheelchairs for the entirety of 1997. He also suffers from chronic pain, asthma, and OCD.

Evans experienced a rough childhood which saw him repeatedly bullied at school. He was a student at Lake High School in Millbury, Ohio, where he received an honors grade in 1999. He was unable to find the right school, which is where the first time he studied acting and theater. Dominick was a student at Bowling Green State University while still in high school. He quit BGSU in 2000 to attend Wright State, but had to withdraw because of an injury. After returning to WSU in the year 2010, where he finished his BFA at the level of Motion Pictures Production. Additionally, he spent one full year studying theater at a satellite school at Michigan’s University of Michigan from 2009-2010.

Evans completed his first film, trip, in 2013. It won a 2015 IndieFEST Award of Recognition. He has worked on other films including the short film, Nance + Sydney. He is in pre-production on two short films, Inamorata and Overture, which will both begin filming in 2020. Inamorata has been in production for the last few years, and is about a lesbian couple in the 1960s, while Overture is set in present day, and is about two queer wheelchair users who meet in a nursing home. Dominick’s films tend to be about marginalized individuals, and he works with diverse film crews that are predominantly made up of women, BIPOC, trans, and disabled filmmakers .
