Domenic Michael Recchia, Jr. (born on the 25th of July 1959) is a famous American politician and attorney born in New York City. A part of the Democratic Party, Recchia formerly was the 47th District Council Member on the New York City Council which comprised areas such as Bensonhurst, Brighton Beach, Coney Island as well as Gravesend within south Brooklyn.

On August 13, 2013, Recchia was adamant against an amendment to Mayor Bloomberg’s veto two bills, one of which would establish the independent Inspector General who would supervise the New York Police Department and another bill that would permit individuals to file a lawsuit in state court if they feel that they’ve been targeted by police. Both bills were approved through council members on the City Council with an overwhelming majority that was enough to override Mayor’s vetoes.

After much speculation, Recchia announced he would run for New York’s 11th congressional district in the 2014 election. If elected, he would have been the first congressman from the Staten Island-based district since 1906 not to have a Staten Island address. His city council district included much of the Brooklyn portion of the congressional district.

He received the 2014 Democratic nomination in New York’s 11th congressional district , but lost in the general election.
