Dietmar Bartsch is one of the most popular and richest Economist who was born on March 31, 1958 in Stralsund, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Dietmar Gerhard Bartsch (born 31 March 1958) is a German politician, former Federal Whip (Bundesgeschaftsfuhrer) of the Party of Democratic Socialism (1997-2002, 2005-2007) and The Left (2007-2010) and member of the Bundestag. Bartsch is married with two kids. Since October, Bartsch has served as leader of Die Linke’s parliamentary group an office he shares alongside Amira Mohamed Ali. Bartsch is a member of the moderate, reformist wing of Die Linke.

After refusing to stand for re-election at the time, in 2002, he got appointed as the Federal Whip in 2005 by PDS chairperson Lothar Bisky in 2005 and was elected to the post in the month following. After the transition of the party into The PDS into The Left, Bartsch continued leading the party as federal whip.

He managed the party’s 2009 general election campaign, during which The Left achieved a result of 11.9% nationwide.

In January 2010, Bartsch was named deputy chairman of The Left’s parliamentary group in the Bundestag. His used this position to focus on national budget and finances.

After graduating, Bartsch joined the business department of the German daily newspaper Junge Welt. From 1986 to 1990, Bartsch was a student in the Academy for Social Sciences at the Communist Party of the Soviet Union headquarters, before going back the Junge Welt as their business director.

Bartsch is a native of and was raised in Stralsund situated in Stralsund, which is located in the East German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. After finishing his education in the EOS Franzburg school in 1976 He began his studies in Economics in the University of Economic Studies at Berlin- Karlshorst. He was able to graduate in 1983.

The year 1977 was the time that Bartsch joined the Socialist Unity Party (SED) the GDR’s political ruling party. Bartsch co-founded the Committee of Young Comrades (AGJG) in 1989. After German unification, Bartsch served as the Party of Democratic Socialism’s (PDS) Federal Treasurer. He was later elected as the federal whip.

In 2002, he ran as one of four leading candidates for the PDS in the general elections. After the party failed to overcome the constitutionally-defined 5 -percent-clause, sending only two representatives to the Bundestag, Bartsch’s political rivals asked for his resignation as federal whip.
