Diederik Aerts, born in Heist-op den-Berg, Belgium, on April 17th 1953. He was a student at the secondary school the ‘Koninklijk Atheneum’, located in Heist-o as a member of the section Latin-Mathematics. He graduated with an MSc in Mathematical Physics in 1975 from Brussels Free University (Vrije Universiteit Bruxelles (VUB). VUB). As a doctoral student, was with VUB University of Geneva with Constantin Piron, working on The Foundations of Quantum Theory, getting the PhD in Theoretical Physics in 1981 from VUB along with Jean Reignier.
In the 1990s, the idea was born to try to revive the center and Apostel requested Aerts to investigate it. In the wake of a major international and inter-disciplinary conference called “Einstein meets Magritte in 1995 The Center Leo Apostel was re-founded including Diederik Aerts as the director. Researcher Francis Heylighen, and his PhD student Johan Bollen, as well as Aerts’s team of PhD students, joined the center. The center was able to secure funding for two new postdocs Jan Broekaert and Alex Riegler as well as a new PhD student Ernest Mathijs. Additionally it was also secured funds for a FWO- research group titled “Research on the Development Integration of Worldviews’ which is still one of the pillars of the center. Additionally, Aerts’s appointment as Editor-in-Chief for the journal ‘Foundations of Science’ a part of the expansion of his research and focus to encompass an interdisciplinary field. This Worldviews group continues to meet on a regular basis , and its publications are the result of discussions held during these gatherings.
In 1976, he began working as a researcher with the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (NFWO) which was where in 1985, he was made a tenured researcher. Since 1995, he’s been the director of VUB’s Center Leo Apostel for Interdisciplinary Studies (CLEA) and in 2000, he was made a as a professor in the VUB. Since 1990, he’s been a member of the Board of the ‘Worldviews Group established by famous the philosopher Leo Apostel. In 1997, he was named Editor-in Chief of the world-renowned ISI along with the Springer journal ‘Foundations for Science (FOS)’. He was the artistic and scientific coordinator of the Einstein meets Magritte’ symposium, where the most renowned scientists and artists met to think about the nature of science as well as human behavior and the society.

Diederik Aerts (born on 17 April 1953) is a Belgian theoretical physicist, and also an instructor in the Brussels Free University (Vrije Universiteit Bruxelles (VUB) VUB) and is the director of the Center Leo Apostel for Interdisciplinary Studies (CLEA).
Through the 70s and 1980s Aerts’s primary research interests were on the basis of quantum theory, as well as the Geneva-Brussels real-world axiomatic and operational model of quantum theory. The year 1990 was the time that Leo Apostel founded the Worldviews group and invited Aerts to join as part of the group. The purpose for the Worldviews group, namely. to develop global views that incorporate various fragmented pieces of knowledge from various disciplines, was the result of a keen desire for research that was interdisciplinary and two books emerged as the result of monthly meetings that the Worldviews group held. Leo Apostel had founded in 1985 the center of interdisciplinarity studies at VUB however, it was inactive and was among the main reasons Leo Apostel created the Worldviews group.
In the course of this investigation, he proved that two of the traditional axioms of quantum theory – more specifically ‘weak modularity’ and ‘the covering law’ – are not satisfied for two ‘separated’ quantum entities. This result is an axiomatic deepening and exploration of the type of situation that make quantum entities violate Bell’s inequalities. His original quantum axiomatic approach to exploring the way that quantum entities combine enabled Aerts to put forward a thoroughly new analysis of the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen paradox, identifying explicitly the ‘missing elements of reality’. Aerts’s analysis is very different from the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen one, since it arrives at a constructive proof of the incompleteness rather than a proof by reductio ad absurdum as in Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen.
