Diane Lynn Dixon (born September 23rd 1964) is an American athlete who competed predominantly in the 400 meter race. Her birthplace was Brooklyn, New York. She is the recipient of earned an Olympic gold medal from running for the American 4x400m relay team during the 1984 Olympics she participated in the preliminary rounds.
She represented in the United States in the 1988 Summer Olympics which took place at Seoul, South Korea in the 4×400 meter race where she was awarded the Silver medal along with teammates Denean Howard Valerie Brisco-Hooks, Denean Howard as well as Florence Griffith Joyner. The second place finish in the race is the second fastest time for that event, which is after the winner Soviet team as well as it is currently an American record. She set her own personal record of 49.84 when she finished 3rd in an open semi-final race in Seoul. A year earlier, she competed at the qualifier heat of the same relay, which later won gold.
Dixon was also member in two winning teams for the 4×400 relay in the IAAF World Championships, taking the bronze medal at the 1987 World Championships at Rome in 1987 and silver medal in the year 1991 at Tokyo.

Diane Dixon owns the distinction of being the first Ohio State women’s student-athlete to take home a national track title in the 400-meter race at the indoor championships of 1983.
Dixon was known for her aggressive frontrunning style indoors, where she could take the lead at the break (after the first 50 meters) and hold off her competitors who would then be forced to try to run around her. In 1981 she won her first of her USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the (then) Imperial distance of 440 yards. In 1983 she won again and began an unprecedented streak of ten consecutive wins in the 440 or 400 metres. In 1985, Dixon won the 400 metres at the IAAF World Indoor Championships. She repeated the feat again in 1991, setting the American Record at 50.64 seconds in the event. That record stood until March 13, 2010, when it was broken by Francena McCorory from Hampton University at the NCAA Championships.
