Larry DeWayne Wise (born February 24 1978) is an American retired professional baseball outfielder. The former player graduated of Chapin High School in 1997 and was picked for the Cincinnati Reds in the fifth round of the 1997 draft for amateurs. He was a player for Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Toronto Blue Jays, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, Florida Marlins as well as the New York Yankees. The most well-known moment of his career is taking Gabe Kapler of a home run in order to keep Mark Buehrle’s perfect game 2009.
Following the 2004 season, Wise was put in the waivers of the Braves and was claimed as a player by the Detroit Tigers. The entire 2005 season playing for Toledo Mud Hens. Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers A affiliate of AAA where he batted .234 prior to being let go.
The White Sox and Wise agreed to a one-year deal worth $550,000 after he had batted .248 with six homers and 18 runs batted in during in 57 games in 2008. Wise was named by manager Ozzie Guillén as the White Sox opening day center fielder and leadoff hitter for the 2009 season after impressing during spring training. However, just seven games into the season, he separated his shoulder while making a diving, bases-loaded catch, saving at least two runs. The catch helped preserve a 10–6 Chicago win, but the resulting injury kept Wise on the disabled list until early June.
The White Sox made the postseason where they lost to the Tampa Bay Rays in four games. Wise batted .286 with a homer and 5 runs batted in during the 2008 ALDS.
On the 25th of October in 2003 Wise became a free minor league player for the Atlanta Braves. He was a star in the Braves minor leagues, hitting at a total of .309 across Class-A Advanced, Class A Advanced and AAA. He was able to earn an invite to play for his next chance at the major leagues. Wise was batting .228 in 77 games for the Braves in 2004, and hit six home runs.

Wise was selected from the Toronto Blue Jays on December 13th, 1999 in the Rule 5 draft without having played in a game for the Reds. He made his debut in the major leagues with the Blue Jays on April 6 in 2000. He was unable to make an impression in the big leagues playing in only 28 games during the 2000 season. He batted .136 before being returned for the minors.
After spending the whole of the 2001 campaign with the Toronto minor leagues, Wise was recalled to the majors in 2002. He played at 42 games, and scored the first of his home runs at the season, and was dismissed largely because of his .179 batsman’s average. He was a free agent following the 2003 season which he played in Syracuse which is an affiliate of the Blue Jays’ AAA affiliate.
The next team to sign Wise was the team who had drafted him in the first place, the Cincinnati Reds. He spent the majority of the 2006 season in Louisville at AAA level, but he did appear in 31 games at MLB level. The Reds re-signed Wise to a minor league contract for the 2007 season, which again he spent mostly in AAA, making just five appearances in the majors. He was released and granted free agency on October 1, 2007.

Cellular Field, Wise was put in by Guillen as a 9th-inning defensive substitute, and promptly robbed the Rays’ Gabe Kapler of a home run with a spectacular, juggling catch, preserving Mark Buehrle’s perfect game. To thank Wise for his play Mark Buehrle gave him a bottle of Crown Royal XR in a cloth bag embroidered with his name and the date of the perfect game.
