Devon John Mathis (born September 21 1981) is a American politician who is currently serving within the California State Assembly. Devon is a Republican serving in the 26th District that covers the southeastern part in the Central Valley. Prior to becoming a member of the Assembly, Devon served for 10 years as a Sergeant in Army National Guard, including two tours in Iraq. While serving in his second deployment of Iraq, Devon was severely injured during a bombing on the roadside that resulted in him being awarded the Purple Heart. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration for Public Service from Fresno State University, and an Aassociate Degree in Social Sciences from Porterville College. Devon as well as his spouse Aubrey reside within Visalia and have five kids.

In July of 2017 Mathis as well as 4 other Republican assemblymen who voted “Yes” on AB 398 to extend California’s Cap and Trade program.
