On the 7th of August, 2018 it was announced that the Denver Nuggets signed Akoon-Purcell on the two-way contract. Akoon-Purcell appeared in just seven games for the Nuggets for the duration period of his contract. On the 16th of December, 2018 following the expiration of his two-way agreement, Akoon-Purcell was released to the Nuggets.

In August 2016, Akoon Purcell signed a one-year deal with Danish team Bakken Bears of the Basketligaen and FIBA Europe Cup. He guided the Bears to the Basketligaen championship in their first season, and was named league MVP and the Finals MVP. The following season, with the Bears He made it to the semi- finals of FIBA Europe Cup and won the Basketligaen championship. Akoon-Purcell won the name of Fans’ Vote FIBA Europe Cup MVP, since he won 4,939 fan votes. He also won the title of Guard of the Year of the tournament.
On September 30, 2019, Akoon-Purcell signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
