Derrick C. Brown is one of the most popular and richest Poet who was born on February 7, 1973 in San Francisco, California, United States. Brown was a graduate of Pacifica High School in 1991 and was a decorated paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina for three years between 1991 to 1993. Brown is disabled due to hearing loss caused by artillery during being enlisted in the First Gulf War. He completed his studies in Speech and Debate (Forensics) as well as Playwriting , and Broadcast Journalism in Cypress College, Palomar College and Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff Arizona.

In 2007 Brown began performing annually along together with Buddy Wakefield and Anis Mojgani The group was dubbed “The Poetry Revival.” Each year, the group invites other well-known performers and performers to join them on specific parts of the tour and also changed the name to reflect the changes in the lineup. 2007 was referred to by the name of “Solomon Sparrow’s Electric Whale Revival”. 2008 was also known by the name of “Junkyard Ghost Revival”. 2009 was also known as as the “Elephant Engine High Dive Revival”. The year 2010 was dubbed”the “Night Kite Revival”. The poetry performances were staged in large numbers across America. In 2011, Brown was commissioned to write a new, 40-55 minute long poem for the Noord Nederlands Dans Collective, choreographed by Juilliard alum Stephen Shropshire. The work, Instrumental, was achieved by using fourteen dancers, an orchestra, one poet and was conducted by Emily Wells and Timmy Straw. It received highly positive reviews in the Netherlands and Canada.

In 2012, Brown opened up the first all-poetry physical bookshop for his press, called Write Bloody, in Austin, Texas.

At the beginning of his career Brown frequently toured on his own. However, he gained a reputation for his touring and collaboration alongside other musicians. In October of 2006, Brown teamed up with actor and poet Amber Tamblyn for several poetry performances in California known as the Lazers of Sexcellance. In 2007 Brown was on tour in Europe performing as a support act for the group Cold War Kids, chronicled in the documentary documentary about the singer, You Belong Everywhere. in 2009 The All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival was curated by The Flaming Lips The Flaming Lips, invited Derrick Brown to be the opening show of the comedian David Cross. Brown performed along with The Navy Gravy. In the year 2006 Brown joined forces with the painter Blaine Fontana for a live reading and opening of a gallery of new artworks based on Brown’s work. Brown was poetry performer in the show The Tonight show with Jay Leno in 2007 along with Cold War Kids, Elvis Perkins and Jessica Alba.
