Derek St. Holmes (born on February 24, 1953) is an American musician who is most well-known as the singer and rhythm guitarist for Ted Nugent’s solo career in the early years performing on numerous albums, including his multi- platinum album Live Double Live Gonzo!. Although Nugent claims to have written the majority of the songs during the period, St. Holmes claims that the songs were written by the entire band however Nugent was the sole writer. After the band split from Ted Nugent in 1978, St. Holmes collaborated with a variety of artists, particularly Brad Whitford of Aerosmith for the Whitford/St. Holmes project. Derek St. Holmes possesses the most powerful voice of a tenor.

The year 1974 saw Derek’s group, “Scott”, opened for an Amboy Dukes show at the Lincoln Park Theater. They were the Amboy Dukes and their guitar player Ted Nugent had already recorded numerous albums and were a mainstay in that Midwest rock scene of the day. After they broke up, the Amboy Dukes broke up, Nugent’s manager on the road (Phil Nicholson) reached out to St. Holmes about auditioning for Nugent’s group as lead singer.

St. Holmes joined Ted Nugent who was the his former Amboy Dukes bassist Rob Grange and drummer Cliff Davies to release Nugent’s self-titled debut album in the year 1975. St. Holmes was a member of Nugent’s band through 1978, after which Nugent and St. Holmes split due to financial, personal and musical disagreements.

In 1979 Derek joined up with Ted Nugent’s bass player Rob Grange, ex-Montrose drummer Denny Carmassi to form St. Paradise. They released one self-titled album for Warner Brothers in 1979 before moving on to other musical careers. In 1981, he teamed up with Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford for the short- lived Whitford/St. Holmes Band.
