Williams was a candidate for a second term as mayor in the year 2016. In the primary election on September 13 that he failed to win his Democratic election in favor of Mike Purzycki, the former executive director of the Riverfront Development Corporation, and came in fourth place of eight candidates. He was a distant third behind Purzycki, Eugene Young, and Kevin Kelley. Purzycki was able to win in the general elections on November 8 2016. Then, Williams quit on January 3, 2017, on the day that Purzycki was inaugurated as the new mayor.

In the 2012 legislative year, Williams was chair of the joint finance committee as well as the appropriations committee, in addition to being an officer of the judiciary and corrections committees, as well as the public safety and homeland security committees.

In the 1994 elections for the state of Delaware, Orlando George, Jr. was reelected to the 1st district. However, he left his position the following year in order to become the president of Delaware Technical Community College.
