From 1986 to her death in 2019 she was a WFSB-TV anchor which was the longest- running anchor for the station. When she passed away in 2019, passing away, D’Ascenzo was also the longest-serving news anchor of the Connecticut broadcaster.

In 2015, she became the first woman to be inducted into the Connecticut Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

On December 7, 2019, D’Ascenzo passed away in her sleep at her Branford, Connecticut, home. She was 61 years old. Her family suspects that the cause of her death was a heart attack.

In 1981, in their senior year at Syracuse University D’Ascenzo was offered her first TV job in the form of WIXT-TV in Syracuse reporting on the forecast for weather. After graduating as a magna cum-laude from Syracuse with two degrees in political science and broadcast journalism in 1981, she was hired full-time as a reporter at WIXT.
