Head went to Taiwan as part of his team from the US in The 1992 women’s R. William Jones Cup competition. Head was able to score 14 points when she played in the first game against Japan that the USA team took home. The team won the entire tournament and won the gold medal at the tournament. The fourth game played against Australia was a close game that saw the Australians held a slight advantage at the half-time break but the USA team came back thanks to Head’s 18 points to take the win. Head scored an average of 11 points per contest and had 14 assists, just after Dawn Staley.

Head was the first and oldest player ever drafted in the WNBA. As part of the WNBA Elite draft in 1997, she was selected 1st overall. She joined the WNBA for two seasons with the Utah Starzz and one with the Phoenix Mercury.

Head was selected as a member of head the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team (now known as”the U19″ team). The team took part in their second Junior World Championship, held in Bilbao, Spain in July 1989. The USA team fell in their first game against South Korea in overtime, and then fell in a two-point loss against Australia. After winning their second game against Bulgaria and Bulgaria, the USA team fell again in a close match which they lost just three points in the game against Czechoslovakia. After winning against Zaire in their next match and beating Zaire in their next game, the USA team took on Spain but fell three points behind. Head scored an average of 6.9 scores per match throughout all of competition. The USA team came in seventh position.

Head was a student at Head attended the University of Tennessee and earned an MBA degree on sports administration. She played four seasons of basketball and won the NCAA women’s basketball championships in 1989 and 1991. Head was selected in the 1992 Kodak All-America Team. Head was named an Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in the senior class as well as in 1989 the SEC Young Player of the Year. As as a high school senior she was selected to the Naismith All American Team. Then, in the year 1990, she was selected for the NCAA All Regional Tournament Team East.

Head was named to the USA national team and competed in the 1994 World Championships, held in June 1994 in Sydney, Australia. She competed along with college teammates Daedra Charles and Carla McGhee. The team was coached by Tara VanDerveer, and won their first six games, when they faced Brazil. In a closely contested, high scoring game, Brazil hit ten of ten free throws in the final minute to secure a 110–107 victory. The USA won a close final game against Australia 100–95 to earn the bronze medal.
