In 2008, his short tale The Lost Herd (originally published in the anthology of erotic horror Hot Blood 12: Strange Bedfellows 2004) was bought to be used in the show Fear Itself. The script was written by Mick Garris and the title was changed into Red Snow. The title was then modified to “The Sacrifice”, and the episode was directed by Breck Eisner. The episode was the first episode of the series, that aired on June 5th the 5th of June, 2008. His short story , The Necrosis Factor was picked to be included in the anthology Traps which debuted in December of 2008.
In 2010 he co-authored the book Vampires Don’t Sleep Alone with Elizabeth Barrial under the pseudonym of D. H. Altair. That year he also released the book When Werewolves Attack under his own name. Both books were published by Ulysses Press.
In January 2019, when Dark Delicacies was forced to relocate, film director Guillermo del Toro backed a fundraising campaign to save the bookstore.
In 2007 Howison as well as editor Jeff Gelb published Dark Delicacies II: Fear (Carroll and Graf). In 2008, it was nominated for the Bram Stoker Award and a Shirley Jackson Award for Best Anthology.
