Dee Smart is one of the most popular and richest Actor who was born on July 9, 1966 in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. Dierdre Claire Smart (born 9 July 1966) is an Australian model, actress singer, dancer, and painter. After quitting her dream of dancing her career took off, she became famous as Lucinda Croft on the hit soap show Home and Away from 1991 until 1992. After the show ended, she appeared in a number of guest spots on television as well as films and plays, including the comedy Welcome to Woop Woop, and also for her performances in the role of Lady Luck on the variety program The Footy Show before returning to regular television with The police routine Water Rats, where she played the role of Detective Chief Constable Alex St. Clare from 1999 until 2001. The most recent roles she has played include appearances in the TV film Panic at Rock Island and the telecasts Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries in 2013 and Winter in 2015.

Smart and Hancock resided with their dog Jack Russell Hancock and Smart lived together with their Jack Russel Terrier Jessie, James Packer and later, his second spouse Jodhi Meares in Packer’s luxurious three-level house at Bondi Beach following Packer’s split with his girlfriend Kate Fischer. They were together for about an entire year and included Smart and Hancock aiding in the planning of Packer and Meares their extravagant wedding. Packer and Meares were unable to maintain their relationship after Smart and Hancock are called “the glue in the marriage” and left in 2000, leading to divorce. They have remained close friends of both parties and Packer’s second wife Erica. Prior to moving in with Packer they owned a home situated in Rose Bay and afterwards they bought a terraced home in Woollahra that they sold in 2003.

Smart is also an avid knitter, sower and painter, and has been exhibited. She was a devout Scientologist starting in April 2003, after she and her husband were introduced to the religion by James Packer. Dee later abandoned the religion as she thought there were good morals to it but she thought that the rules were too strict on all the things needed of a person to be part of scientology. Her eight siblings, who range from seven years younger to thirteen years older than her, are not involved in the entertainment industry and are scattered across Australia and London.

Smart did not work much in the ten years following the birth of her daughter and the end of Water Rats, save for two episodes of the TV show The Alice in 2005 and 2006 and a month-long stint on the play Burnt Piano in early 2008. In 2011 she started a return to the small screen with a supporting role in the disaster television film Panic at Rock Island, followed by three appearances in the second season of the period drama Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries in 2013, a year in which she also starred in three short films, and most recently two episodes of Winter in 2015.

Between 1996 between 1996 and in 1998 Smart played a number of guest appearances on Australian television shows like Twisted Tales G.P., Halifax f.p. (reuniting together with her Home and Away brother Guy Pearce), Wildside and Murder Call, and starred in the role of Columbia in the 25th anniversary film of The Rocky Horror Show which was on for two months however, despite numerous offers, she was hesitant to accept a regular TV job due to her previous experience in Home and Away. The situation changed in 1999 when she was selected to play the Detective Chief Constable Alex St. Clare in the procedural police drama Water Rats, a role which she fought for and endured five auditions over three months. Smart’s casting was controversial, and tabloids reported that she got the job because of her close relationship of Nine Network boss James Packer and was rejected by producers. Smart resigned from the show in July 2001. She was pregnant for six months with her first child Charlie as well as other actors leaving and declining numbers, Water Rats was cancelled in the same month.

In December 1991, just 8 months after signing her deal she gave the magazine TV Week a “scathing” interview on her character in the magazine, stating she felt she was serving the equivalent of a “prison sentence”, adding that “It feels like I’ve been here for years”. Smart critiqued the show’s rapid production schedule, saying there was not enough time to flesh out a character. She claimed that the show was “impossible to do a good job” due to the limitations on time, noting that she was shocked she had time to do any acting. Smart also expressed her displeasure about her role as Lucinda since the character “goes on and on and on – it is kind of abnormal for a character to last this long” concluding the interview saying that she wouldn’t ever sign a new long-term contract.

In the years following, Smart unsuccessfully attempted to start a singing career. She appearing naked for the publication Black+White as well as appeared as a stage performer in variety of productions in Australia and in Christmas pantomimes throughout The United Kingdom alongside her Home and Away love partner Bruce Roberts and did not come back to screen until 1994, when she was a part of the student film Director Samantha Lang in her Graduate short film Audacious which was later to screen in a variety of film festivals around the globe, and won a few awards during the course. Smart continued to stage her work the following year, starring in two plays, and continued to work behind the camera, playing in the TV film Blackwater Trail as well as the feature Back of Beyond, which brought her back with her Home and Away co-star Rebekah Elmaloglou. The was the same year that Smart was also spotted as Lady Luck in the variety show The Footy Show which offered viewers betting tips up to 2002. In 1996, she appeared in the co-production between Canada and Australia called Turning April alongside Justine Clarke who is also a Home and Away alum, and 1997 saw the debut of Stephan Elliott’s Welcome to Woop Woop in which Smart is a key character. It was a highly anticipated comedic film which debuted in competition during the Cannes Film Festival, was an economic and critical flop and remains her only film to be released in theaters.

Smart was first married to musician Steve Balbi but the relationship ended in divorce. She was later introduced to futures trader Chris Hancock whom she married in Las Vegas in June 1998 after four years of dating, in front of an Elvis Presley impersonator singing Viva Las Vegas and a congregation of ten people, including billionaire businessman James Packer, a childhood friend of Hancock’s, and her Welcome to Woop Woop co-star Rod Taylor, who walked her down the aisle. The couple have three children, including eldest daughter Charlie, born on 28 October 2001, son Johnny and daughter Zoe. Smart gave birth to their youngest child in early 2012 at age 45, an age which was deemed controversial in Australian media.
