Sears is a native of East Grand Forks, Minnesota. She made her debut in 1990 when she released the album What is a Woman wants to hear through Warner Bros. Alongside being a vocalist on the Gill’s album, I Believe in You, Sears provided duet vocals for the track “An Out of Control Raging Fire” on Tracy Byrd’s debut album from 1994. In 1994 she was signed to be the first artist on Decca Records’ newly revived country music division. The album she released in 1994, nothin’ But Good, was released on Decca and the album’s lead track, “Runaway Train”, made it onto the charts of country music. The other singles on the album did not succeed as well, and Dawn quit Decca’s roster long afterward. Self-titled album released on her own in 2002, and was and was followed by her first Christmas album. Sears was back to work as a backup vocalist with Gill. She was featured on many Gill’s albums. One of them was his 2003 album The Next Big Thing. Sears also appeared in The Time Jumpers.
