In the months of October 2006, in May 2008 and July 2015 the gallery’s artist Marcel Dzama organized three charity exhibitions and auctions of art on the premises of the gallery New York, all to benefit 826NYC an organization that is non-profit and that assists young people in developing their writing skills. The book was published in 2006 by McSweeney’s Books on the occasion of the 2006 auction the catalogue was limited edition and featuring reproductions of artworks and criticisms by eight-year-olds. In March of 2011, Zwirner and fellow art dealer and parent Christopher D’Amelio organized the art donations to The Grace Church School 25th Annual Scholarship Benefit Auction.
Since 2012, Zwirner has consistently ranked in the top 5 of the ArtReview annual “Power 100” list, the magazine’s survey of most important figures in contemporary art. Zwirner’s rankings were 4 (2010), 5 (2012), 2 (2013), 2 (2014), 3 (2015), 4 (2016), 5 (2017), and 1 (2018) He has been on the list since 2003. In April 2014, Zwirner hosted the annual Acria Unframed Auction to benefit HIV/AIDS research and education programs at his New York gallery. The event raised a record-breaking $1 million for charity. In February 2015, David Zwirner organized the annual auction to benefit Friends Seminary, the oldest continuously coeducational school in New York City. The exhibition featured more than 60 works, many donated by gallery artists, and raised over $500,000 for the school’s largest fundraising event to date. In December 2016, gallery artist James Welling selected 65 works for an exhibition and sale to benefit the Foundation for Contemporary Arts (FCA) and grants for individual artists. 16 works were contributed by artists at Welling’s invitation and 49 were selected from the FCA’s collection, including works from its first benefit exhibition in 1963.
The year 2001 was the time Zwirner created his “I Love NY Art Benefit” exhibition at the David Zwirner Gallery in order to help the people affected by 9/11’s World Trade Center attacks. Within a few days of 9/11, the gallery was hit by a massive fire. 11 attack, Zwirner invited the gallery’s artists to contribute their works to the show. He also sought the assistance from the other New York dealers to organize their own benefit shows. This led to a large-scale benefit featuring more than 150 galleries participating and alternative venues. Similar to the exhibit at the David Zwirner Gallery, the entire proceeds collected by the galleries benefitted from the Robin Hood Relief Fund, part of the Robin Hood Foundation.

It said that one hundred percent of the sales will go to support non-profit organizations working in Haiti, including Architecture for Humanity, J/P Haitian Relief Organization, Partners in Health, Grameen Creative Lab, Artists for Peace and Justice, Ciné Institute, and The Stiller Foundation.
