David Timm is one of the most popular and richest Pianist who was born on April 24, 1969 in Waren (Müritz), Germany. David Timm (born 24 April 1969) is a German organist, pianist and choral conductor as well as jazz musician. Since February 2005 he has been Universitatsmusikdirektor [de] (University Music Director) of the Leipzig University, and thus also director of the Leipziger Universitatschor, succeeding Wolfgang Unger.

Timm is co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Richard- Wagner-Gesellschaft Leipzig 2013 association, now called Leipziger Romantik. Timm is an honorary members of the Richard Wagner Verband in Leipzig. In 2008, he was awarded his Mozart Prize of the Sachsischen Mozart-Gesellschaft.

The year 1997 was the time he won his first Prize in the world competition for organ musical improvisation at Schwabisch Gmund. He wrote Jazzmesse (or Jazz- Messe), which is a setting of the mass featuring jazz elements. It was the first work was recorded and Max Reger’s Der 100. Psalm performed with soloists, the Thomanerchor and The Leipziger Universitatschor and the Gewandhausorchester.

Timm was born in Waren, Timm was educated at the St. Thomas School, Leipzig. He was a student and later the first prefect of Thomanerchor. He was a student of church music with the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig from 1989 until 1995. He studied with Hannes Kastner. He also studied organ alongside Arvid Gast, and improvisation with Volker Brautigam, and finished his studies at the Church music of Germany A-Exam. He continued to study the piano under Markus Tomas and graduated with distinction in 1999. In 1996/97, he studied with Karl-Heinz Kammerling in The Salzburg Mozarteum. From 1998 to 2002 he was a conductor in choral in the Evangelische Hochschule fur Kirchenmusik Halle [de] and also in 1998, liturgical organ playing on the Leipzig Musikhochschule. In 2002, he also taught the art of organ playing at the Leipzig Musikhochschule and in 2017, his appointment as an honorary professor was announced.

In 1991 Timm was a member of saxophonist Reiko Brockelt in the form of JazzDuo Timm/Brockelt in national as well as international jazz and classical festivals. Along with the jazz saxophonist Frank Nowicky he founded the LeipzigBigband in 1999. He was the in charge of its musical direction from 1999 to 2006. Leipziger Vocalensemble from 1999 to in 2006.
