David Self is one of the most popular and richest Screenwriter who was born on January 8, 1970 in Texas City, Texas, United States. David Self was born on January 8, 1970 at Texas City, Texas. He grew up at Danvers, Massachusetts, where he attended St. John’s College Preparatory School. He earned his bachelor’s as well as a master’s from English writing in the English department at Stanford University. He relocated into Los Angeles, California, after completing his studies. He had no connections, and landed an entry-level job in Walt Disney Pictures in 1994.

Prior to 1998 , all films Self was working on were for producers who were independent. The first screenplay he wrote for major studios is The Haunting, which he wrote for Steven Spielberg. After completing Thirteen Days, Self showed the script to Spielberg. Based on Self, Spielberg considered directing the film at some point. Spielberg then approached Self to write the script for his remake of his 1963 film The Haunting. Spielberg collaborated directly with Self to create the script. It was made into a feature in 1999 the script was extensively modified with the help of screenwriters and novelists Michael Tolkin (including a new ending) However, Self was the sole writer.

In 2005, Self pitched an untitled science fiction series to the Fox Network. Fox picked up the option to produce, and Breck Eisner directed a television movie (Beyond) in 2006. The backdoor pilot never was picked up as a series, however.

In 2006, Self was attached to two separate screenplays for films based on the superheroes Deathlok and Captain America. He also wrote an early draft based on another superhero, Namor.

The third script he wrote comprised Thirteen Days, based on the personal memoirs from John F. Kennedy advisor Kenneth O’Donnell. The script that was semi-fictional (which included O’Donnell’s counsel to Kennedy throughout Kennedy’s time during the Cuban Missile Crisis) was ordered by the producer Armyan Bernstein after having seen Dawn’s Early Light. Bernstein first met with Self in the hopes of writing a romantic story set against the backdrop that was the Cuban Missile Crisis, but Self convinced him to drop the love story and create an easy history film with O’Donnell acting as an “everyman” stand-in. Self started writing the script in spring 1997. Self collaborated closely with filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan on the script (Kasdan wanted to direct the film). This was the first script Self wrote to go into production, though it was only the third of Self’s films to be released.
