1996, Continental Divide released the On the Divide album for Pinecastle Records. Personnel included Parmley, Anglin, Vestal, Bowen, Aubrey Haynie (mandolin, fiddle), and Larry Atamanuik (percussion).
In 1998, Vestal departed the band. The band name was changed to Continental Divide, and then David Parmley and Continental Divide.
Parmley was awarded The International Bluegrass Music Association Recorded Event of the Year award in both 1991 and 1995.

The year was 1974. Parmley started playing professionally bluegrass at the age of 17 singing lead vocals as well as playing guitar alongside dad Don along with mandolinist Randy Graham in the Bluegrass Cardinals. When he was in 1991, Parmley was fired from his position with the Bluegrass Cardinals and relocated into Nashville to pursue an independent professional career as a country musician.
It was 1989 when Parmley made his debut solo album I Know a Good thing with Sugar Hill Records and in 1993 the album was dropped Southern Heritage on Rebel Records.
In 1994, Parmley formed David Parmley, Scott Vestal and Continental Divide with Scott Vestal (banjo), Rickie Simpkins (fiddle), Jimmy Bowen (mandolin), Mike Anglin (bass), and Randy Kohrs (resonator guitar). In 1995, they released David Parmley, Scott Vestal & Continental Divide album (Pinecastle). Also in 1995, Continental Divide won the IBMA award for Emerging Artist of the Year.
