David Ryan Klingler (born February 17th 1969) is an ex- American football player. He was selected to the Cincinnati Bengals after a record- setting career at the University of Houston, but is considered to be a failure due to his poor NFL career. Klingler has attended Stratford High School in Houston. Klingler is currently an adjunct professor for Bible Exposition in Dallas Theological Seminary.

Klingler attended school to study at Dallas Theological Seminary, earning the master’s degree in Theology as well as an Ph.D. on Old Testament studies. In June of 2010, he was named director of the DTS’s Houston extension. On April 15th the 15th of April, 2012 it was announced Klingler was named the assistant Professor of Bible studies in the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s Havard School of Theological Studies in Houston. Klingler worked as an analyst with the Houston University football radio station between 2006 and 2008.

Klingler injured his shoulder and elbow during the offseason, prior to the start of his 3rd season. Following his 1994 campaign (his third) He underwent an elbow surgery. After being told that the injury would end his career the player knew his career was finished. Before surgery, he could kick a ball for 85 yards. A 6-foot, 2 inch player, Klingler created numerous record-setting college passes in the Houston Cougars from 1988 to 1991. On the 17th of November the 17th of November, 1990 Klingler was able to throw 11 touchdown passes to Eastern Washington University at the Astrodome in December 2 he established his NCAA (division I) record for the highest number of yards gained in one game with 716 (since beat by Connor Halliday in 2014). In the four seasons he spent at Houston the Texans, he completed 726 of his 1,262 passes to gain 9430 yards, and scored 91 touchdowns. All of them were records for the school in the period. Klingler was the first to set his NCAA record in touchdown passes during a season in 1990 with 54. The single season record for touchdown passes was in place for 16 years before it was broken at the year 2006’s Hawaii Bowl by University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan with 58, however, Brennan required three more games to beat the record. Klingler did a great job to take home the Heisman Trophy, but was lost to Ty Detmer of Brigham Young University and Raghib Ismail (runner-up) of Notre Dame. Klingler continued to be a standout player at his school, the University of Houston and still places in the top 10 for touchdown passes in a career and yards over the course of a career.

Klingler was selected in the 1st selection in the 1993 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. From 1992 until 1995, he was a Bengals player, starting for them in 1993 and 1994. Bengals between 1993 and 1994, before losing his position to Jeff Blake. He played the next an additional two years as back-up to the Oakland Raiders. Then, in 1998, he was signed by the Green Bay Packers to back Brett Favre. However, his contract was terminated and he did not take part in the game.
