David William Stegman (born January 30 1954) is an ex- Major League Baseball outfielder. He played all or a part of six major league seasons with the Detroit Tigers (1978-1980), New York Yankees (1982) and Chicago White Sox (1983-1984). Through his six seasons, playing in 172 games, and scored 320 bats in the game 39 runs scored with 66 hits, 10 doubles, 2 triples 8 home runs and 32 RBI five bases stolen 31, walks and the team had a .206 batsman’s average as well as with a .277 on-base percentage and an .325 percent slugging rate of 104 bases four sacrifice hits, and four sacrifice flyers.
When Stegman was a player in 1980, he joined his debut in 1980, but he was unable to keep the Tigers from spring practice. As a back-up outfielder in the reserve position, he hit only .181 through August 6 , before being sent again to Evansville. In September, he returned to Evansville, however, he was just 2-for-14 over the stretch. Following the season, He was traded to the San Diego Padres for relief pitcher Dennis Kinney.
Stegman received one more chance in the majors when he made the White Sox roster in 1984. (On April 7, Stegman came in to pinch-run for Greg Luzinski with two outs in the ninth; his old Tigers roommate, Jack Morris, proceeded to strike out Ron Kittle to complete his Opening Day no-hitter.) He batted .261 in 55 games before finishing the season back in Denver. He spent two more seasons in the minors, with the Toronto Blue Jays organization in 1985 and then back with the Yankees in 1986, but never returned to the major leagues.
The 1979 season was similar to the 1978 season for Stegman. he played the entire season playing with the Triplets being called to the plate in September. He was this time given more of an opportunity playing in 12 games and 33 plate appearances. Even though he batted just .194 however, he hit three home runs in the six hits.

Stegman was initially chosen in the 10th pick from Lompoc High School, in the year 1972 by Minnesota Twins. However, he chose not to sign the contract and took up a college baseball position in the University of Arizona. In his junior year He was picked two times more, once from Boston Red Sox in June 1975 and again by Boston Red Sox in June 1975, and again from the Atlanta Braves in January 1976 and he returned his final season. In June 1976, he got picked in the second round of the second round from the Tigers.
Stegman was back in Evansville in 1978. This time, he hit .264 during the entire year in the Triplets. The result was a promotion as rosters grew in September. When he made the course of his MLB debut season, Stegman played in 8 gamesand hit 14 times, with four hits. Stegman began the 1981 season in the minors once more, this time with the Hawaii Islanders. However, just 14 games into the season, he was traded a second time, this time to the New York Yankees. He spent the rest of the year with the Columbus Clippers, batting .291 in 90 games. In 1982, Stegman spent nearly the entire season with Columbus, batting .272. He returned to the majors in June, but made just two appearances—both as a pinch runner, before returning to Columbus. He became a free agent after the season.
