Dave Kershaw (born 18 October 1955) is an Shotokan Karateka born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. He competed internationally representing Great Britain at European and World Championships between 1982 and 1998. He was also British Kata Champion (Shotokan Karate International of Great Britain) for a record- setting six consecutive years from 1987 until 1992. He was an experienced Senior SKI (GB) instructor and Examiner up until 2011 and then he established his own organization: Konjaku Shin International.
His international career in competition began in 1982 in the year 1982, when Hanshi Asano chose him to take part in a four-nation, European competition in Munich and his team finished second. The year 1991 was the first time he competed as the sole kumite winner in the Shotokan Karate Do International Federation World Championships held in Mexico City. In 1998, during the SKIEF European Championships in Sheffield the UK, he won silver in the men’s (40-44) Kata, and his team was awarded gold in the veteran three-man team Kata.
In 1993, he opened the club’s own premises in Lower Spring Street Grimsby.
In 2001, he was invited to teach in Amritsar, India, by the Punjab Karate Association, and became their Chief Technical Advisor.
In 1981 He played captain in his team, the SKI (GB) A-Team, winning the English Karate Federation All Styles Three Man Kata title.

Karate was his first form of training in 1972, along with Brian Woods, who passed away in 1972. Brian Woods, at his dojo located at Nunsthorpe School in Grimsby. In 1974 He joined the newly-formed Shotokan Karate International of Great Britain and began his training under Hanshi Shiro asano. He also studied in conjunction with Shotokan Karate International Chief Instructor of the Federation Hirokazu Kanazawa during his twice annually trips for the UK.
The year was 1978 and he began to set up the club he had created, Konjaku Shin (literally meaning “Ancient and Modern Spirit”) in a photography center located in Cleethorpes. In the following years, he ran clubs at Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham Leisure centers.
In 1992, Hanshi Asano awarded him the Wilkinson Sword of Honour, for services to karate-do.
