Govens received the honor of being selected as the Class 4A Pennsylvania Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006. He was also the All-State First Team selection by the Associated Press, along with his teammate Garrett Williamson in high school.

His highest score of his career came at La Salle University when he scored 26 points. He was not selected during the 2011 NBA D-League Draft, but was on it onto the Reno Bighorns roster.
