Roland is a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on February 9, 1962. the parents of his were Egyptian Jews of French, Italian and Portuguese descent , who moved into Argentina after emigrating from Alexandria in the latter half of 1950. In 1963 , his family moved in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where Roland learned to play the drums as well as electric guitar. He also was a student of economics along with Journalism at PUC-SP but he did not complete either course.

In 1993, Roland was back in Brazil and settled at Rio de Janeiro, where the actor met theater and film director Bia Lessa, his upcoming wife. He arranged the soundtracks for several performances by her, but most particularly their adaptations from Virginia Woolf’s Orlando and Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters, Robert Musil’s The Man Without Qualities and Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. In 1997, he directed with Lessa their first fully independent film that was critically acclaimed, Crede-Mi that was loosely an adaptation of Thomas Mann’s book The Holy Sinner.

In 2007 Roland formed the musical project Os Ritmistas alongside Stéphane San Juan, Domenico Lancellotti and Zero Telles; they released their first album in the same year. A second album by the project , entitles Aqui, came out 10 years later, in 2017.

In 2010 he made his first major appearance in a feature film, portraying Thomas on Gustavo Pizzi’s Craft; he previously made a very brief cameo, alongside his Metrô bandmates, in Francisco de Paula’s 1985 film Areias Escaldantes.

Prior to his rise as a producer and musician, Roland was well known for playing the role of “Fernandinho” in an iconic series of commercials by Brazilian clothing company USTop that ran from 1984 until 1988.

Daniel David Roland Pinto (born on 9 February 1962) was popularly is also known in the media as Dany Roland, is an Argentina-born Brazilian actor, musician as well as sound designer, film director, and record producer. He is well-known for his role as his drummer for the renowned new wave group Metro and for his work with his wife Bia Lessa.

In 1978 he founded, alongside his schoolmates of the Lycee Pasteur in Sao Paulo Virginie Boutaud, Freddy and Alec Haiat, Xavier Leblanc, Yann Laouenan and Marcel Zimberg, the experimental/progressive rock band “A Gota Suspensa”, which released a self-titled album in 1983; in the following year, A Gota Suspensa changed its name to Metro, acquiring higher fame. Roland quit Metro at the end of 1987 just a few weeks after their release of the second album A Mao de Mao in order to pursue other artistic endeavors; the next time, Metro was disbanded. With his old Metro teammate Xavier Leblanc Roland briefly played in the experimental rock group Okoto together with Cherry Taketani and Andre Fonseca After moving in Brussels, Belgium in the early 1990s, along with Yann Laouenan, the pair started The Passengers, an alternative rock group. The Passengers (not to be confused with a different similarly Belgian band that formed in the latter part of the 1970s, which later became known by the name The Names) alongside Diako Diakoff, Denis Moulin and Jack Roskam. They recorded their eponymous album, which was quite successful, in 1992.

In 2002 Metrô reunited, and Roland returned as their guitarist. The band’s comeback album, Déjà-Vu, was produced by him alongside Yann Laouenan. They broke up once more in 2004 however, but announced yet another reunion in 2015. According to Roland, they are currently working on their fourth studio album, but it still has no name or a release date as of yet.
