Daniel Caspary (born 4 April 1976) is an German politician, who’s been an MEP European Parliament (MEP) since 2004. He is an official of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and is a member of the European People’s Party (EPP). Daniel Caspary is now in the fourth legislative session of the European Parliament. Daniel Caspary lives in Weingarten. He is married and has five children.
Daniel Caspary was elected to the European Parliament in the 2004 elections. He belongs to the European People’s Party. He is an active member of the committee on international trade, and was the as coordinator for the EPP group from 2009 to 2017. From 2015 to 2017, Caspary was the co-chair of the European People’s Party trade ministers gatherings with Jyrki Katainen, vice president of the European Commission. From 2014 to 2017 he was the chief-whip of the German CDU/CSU delegation in the European Parliament. Caspary was elected the head of the delegation in 2017. In this role, Caspary is an advisory member of the executive board for the Christian Democratic Union and member of the group bureau of the European People’s Party. In addition, as a member of the European Parliament, he is an ex-officio member of the committee that deals with the activities of the European Union in the German Bundestag.
Since 2010 Caspary has been advocating to ban the import of goods produced in forced-labour camps in China.
As a member of the committee on international trade, Caspary supports the conclusion of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the EU and the United States of America. In March 2013, he initiated the event series ‘Friends of TTIP’ as a platform for open and controversial discussion for representatives from politics, industries and civil society.
When he graduated of The Thomas Mann Gymnasium in Stutensee, Caspary served in the federal German military as the first lieutenant in reserve. He pursued a degree in economics and technical sciences in the University of Karlsruhe. In addition to his studies, he worked as an assistant to the Minister of State of Agriculture for the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, Peter Hauk. He worked as an intern for J.P. Morgan in Frankfurt and London. Following his graduation in 2002 he joined MVV Energie in Mannheim.
