Dana Simpson Biography

Dana Simpson is one of the most popular and richest Cartoonist who was born on April 23, 1977 in Pullman, Washington, United States. Simpson’s second comic strip, I Drew This, was primarily a political strip and proudly reveals its liberal bent. It’s a bit autobiographical because one of the primary characters is the author (the other one is Joe known as the Liberal Eagle) and its main focus is usually the writer’s personal thoughts. The story of Drew This began life in the Washington State University Daily Evergreen in the month of January 2004 when Simpson was in graduate school. Marigold is based partially on the unicorn character in the work The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. Marigold’s name was based the results of using Simpson’s own name in an online unicorn name generator.

Following the closure in Ozy as well as Millie, Simpson provided illustrations for children’s books. She also submitted a brand new comic concept for Amazon.com’s “Comic Strip Superstar” contest in 2009. The comic was titled Girl and was chosen as the winner, and she was awarded an agreement to publish with Andrews McMeel Universal. Girl revolves around the unnamed female character with an active imagination, who is interacting with woodland creatures. The strip’s release was delayed. According to Simpson the delay was caused by the syndicate because of its inability to launch two “talking animal” strips at simultaneously in addition to the syndicate’s request for more editing. Simpson added that she had a small number of Girl strips drawn and required additional time to draw more.

Webcomic Ozy and Millie(Simpson’s debut comic strip (published under the name of D.C. Simpson), was first published in 1998, while she was enrolled at Washington State University as a graduate student. The strip focused around Ozy (an Arctic fox) and Millie (a red Fox) in their daily lives as the pals faced the everyday issues of elementary school and more bizarre situations. In her work with Ozy and Millie, Simpson was a finalist in The 1998 Scripps Howard Foundation Charles M. Schulz college cartoonist award. The comic went on receive in 1999 the college media Advisors award for the best Strip Cartoon and the 2002 Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards as the best Anthropomorphic Comic. The comic also received an Ursa Major Award for “Best Anthropomorphic Other Work” in 2002 as well as “Best Anthropomorphic Comic Strip” in the years 2006 and 2007. Simpson continued to draw the strip for 10 years, while trying to secure syndication for the name however, he was unable to secure any contract.
