Dan Norris (born 28 January 1960) is a British Labour Party politician who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wansdyke from 1997 until 2010. He was also a parliamentarian under Secretary of State in the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

While in the House of Commons, Norris was an assistant whip from 2001 until 2003. In July 2007 Norris was appointed the as the Parliamentary Private Secretary of Foreign Secretary David Miliband, a role which he previously served as Secretary of State of Northern Ireland Peter Hain. In the reshuffle in June 2009, Norris was appointed to the Government as Minister to the very first time. He was made the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Norris was one of just 25 out of the 121 MPs who voted on Freedom of Information laws supporting its application to MPs’ allowances at the Third Reading vote on 18 May 2007. Norris has a particular interest in child safety and regularly campaigns against child sexual abuse, having co written a free booklet on its prevention. He also co wrote, produced and distributed a booklet aimed at giving practical advice to children across the United Kingdom about dealing with bullying entitled Don’t Bully Me.

Following his defeat at the general election of 2010, Norris turned his attention to working for former Foreign Secretary David Miliband in his ultimately unsuccessful bid for the Labour leadership. In May 2012, Norris was shortlisted to be the Labour Party candidate for Mayor of Bristol, but did not win the selection.

He was a candidate for the Wansdyke seat again during the 1997 election and was successful in winning a traditionally secure Conservative seat with 4,799 voters, reversing the majority of just 11,770. While Norris continued to grow his lead to 5,613 votes in 2001’s election and 2005, the vote saw his lead over Conservatives decrease to 1,839. In the wake of changes implemented through the Boundary Commission for England, the Wansdyke constituency was cut off during the 2010 election. Norris ran for North East Somerset, but was defeated by Jacob Rees-Mogg (C).
