His Reflections play on the youthful Steven Spielberg, a director who he claimed to admire was later matched by his attack upon George Lucas in Packard’s film The Untitled Star Wars Mockumentary (2003). The film merged footage from Lucas with staged scenes of angry Lucasfilm employees.

After years of struggling to finish films with his pockets, while living in tents and cars, Packard received a large inheritance following the death of a relative. He used the money to fund Reflections of Evil (2002) which was a lengthy study of the current state of American anxiety. The film starred Packard himself as a fat and overwrought salesman selling watches. Packard made more than 23,000 copies of his film on DVD and then made them available at no cost. He also distributed hundreds of copies to famous people and their reactions were posted through his site. For the issue in January/February 2006 of Film Comment, Reflections of Evil was included on it onto the Editor’s List for Best of 2005.

It included Miles O’Keeffe in small role. The film was followed by more shorts, including Apple (1992) and Apple (1992), an elfquest-inspired film that was made in Hawaii during his stay in an encampment during two seasons. He also released The Early 70’s Horror Trailer with the first appearance of the independent film actor Rachel Galvin.

In May 2007, Packard completed SpaceDisco One. SpaceDisco One was screened at the New York Film Festival on October 6, 2007 and was also selected for the Hollywood Film Festival, The Lausanne Fest Switzerland, Lincoln Film Center NY, Berkeley Fest, Tulsa Overground, The Dark Room San Francisco, Il Corral L.A., Union Gallery London, and many other through 2007.
