Naftalie Shigwedha amukwelele (born on January 1, 1974) popularly referred to as D-Naff is a Namibian multi-award winning and best-selling rapper/singer actor, as well as a former street criminal. D-Naff performs inspirational Gospel and religious music in the styles of kwaito, hip-hop dancehall, kizomba and Afro-pop. D-Naff is also an inspirational and motivational speaker, and has been to over 30 different schools across Namibia such as those at the University of Namibia, Windhoek College of Education, Ongwediva College of Education and the Polytechnic of Namibia now known as NUST.

D-Naff was appointed his (goodwill) ambassador for the National Youth Council of Namibia (NYC).He was in 2014 named Kora Awards goodwill Ambassador 2014/2015 to Namibia in the combat against Ebola virus. He is joining 53 other African musicians and artists who are Kora Awards Ambassadors in their respective countries. Together, they help spread awareness of the Ebola virus, and collect funds to be sent to organizations fighting the outbreak. They will reach out to their Presidents or political leaders, their business groups, and the entire country to be part of in the Kora movement. (See Kora website). His responsibilities of the National Youth Council of Namibia Ambassador includes: speaking to the Namibian youth across the country on issues that concern them, acting as their spokesperson as well as encouraging and motivating them to become the most effective they can be, and live lives that is meaningful. His music career began in the mid 1990s, while an undergraduate student in the “Jan Jonker Afrikaner Secondary School” in Windhoek Namibia, under a group known as”Glamour Boys” “Glamour Boys” which was an acappella group of five members were members of the National Youth Choir of Namibia and was led by Conductor Mr. Erenst Von Biljon. The group performed in France in 1998 during the world cup soccer tournament as part of the Franco-Namibian Cultural Center FNCC. After dedicating the entirety of his life to Jesus, D-Naff went on to form the Gospel hip-hop band called Eagles in Flight which later was renamed Heaven’s Dialect. Following the departure of the producer of the group to the U.S.A., the group ended up disbanding and D-Naff was able to form another group named “Eagle’s Mentality” which became the winner of the 2005 “Best Gospel” at the Sanlam-NBC Music Awards. So far, he’s won more than 10 (10) awards, including NAMAS. He released his debut solo album, Oshagwana in 2006, which brought him greater recognition. In 2007, he made his debut album, Iikele Yuuyuni Mbu, which earned an honor during the Namibian Music Awards in the gospel category, with the track, “Tsipi Tsipi”. His third album , Above the Limit came out in the early part of 2008. It is now the highest seller Gospel performer in Namibia and Namibia’s most sought-after and requested Gospel artist. He has worked with international artists such as Marvin B3 Kasomo Mark B3 Kasomo, Prince Keddy, Ephraim Mutalange, Ty2, Damiano, Chola Chola and Tio both hailing from Zambia. The music he has released is airplayed on almost every station in the nation and also Radio Phoenix and ZNBC in Zambia. He has recorded 11 albums to date.

As a young boy he grew up “takandeke”, a traditional popular fight among the Aawambo young men practiced as an initiation into manhood, as well as swimming in the plains and wells during or after rainy seasons with his friends, and hunting in the forests. Time and again he would come back home with his shorts torn from all the climbing and adventure. He attended Eendombe Combined School and later Namibia English Primary School in Windhoek the Capital City of Namibia. His father died in 1998 while D-Naff was in France at the world cup performing for the world cup.he matriculated at Augustineum Secondar School and went on to enroll in the college of the arts under the mentorship of the talented Ernst Von Biljorn. He is currently serving as an Immigration officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration’s head office Windhoek, Namibia.
