He completed his graduate studies with doctoral, master and postdoctoral studies that were funded by French Government, Erasmus Programme, Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and New Europe College. In 1998, he earned an Ph.D. in Political Science at the EHESS, Paris with “summa cum laude, with the felicitations of the jury in unanimity”.
In October 2001 Cristian Preda became a project manager of the branches of the Central and Eastern Europe Office of the Francophony University Agency (Agence universitaire pour la Francophonie). From 2002, he is a member of regional commission of experts for this organisation.
On September 21, 2005 he was assigned junior ministry for Francophonie in the Romanian Foreign Ministry and personal representative of the Romanian President Traian Băsescu. In this quality, he took an important part in preparation of the Francophonie Summit in Bucharest, in September 2006.
In parallel, he was employed as translation for Humanitas, Babel, Anastasia, Meridiane and Nemira publishing houses. As the director for collection of political sciences: Societatea politica (at Ed. Nemira, 1998-2002), Polis (at Ed. Humanitas, 2003-2004) and Biblioteca de politica (at Ed. Nemira, din 2004). He was a journalist in Sfera Politicii (1992-1996) and Polis (1995-1997).

Cristian Preda was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania. He earned an undergraduate degree in Philosophy at Bucharest University in 1991 and the following year, he received the MA (D.E.A.) from the Department of History of Philosophy at Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne University in Paris, with the an inscription “very good”.
Since 1992, he has taught in his Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest. He is a full time professor and dean of the Faculty. In 2005, he was an additional supervisor for doctoral students. the area of Political Sciences.
Between March 1999 and December 2000, Cristian Preda was the presidential adviser for domestic policies of the Romanian President Emil Constantinescu.
